Meet Our New Principal, Amy Edwards

Meet Our New Principal, Amy Edwards

We are delighted to have appointed Mrs Amy Edwards as our new school principal, starting in September.

As part of introducing Amy to our school community, we spoke to her about her background in education and how she got to the position of school leader. Read on to find out all about Mrs Edwards.

Originally qualifying in 2009, Amy has now been in education for 13 years. Beginning her career in Rugby, Warwickshire, Amy soon moved down to Swindon, joining Gorse Hill Primary School as a Reception Teacher. Since then, Mrs Edwards has worked in different year groups, as an early years leader, and more recently supported schools around the White Horse Federation as a member of the TWHF early years improvement team.

During these years, she also developed as a school leader, and will be leaving the role of Assistant Principal at Gorse Hill to join Southbroom.

Asked what her favourite part of working in education was, she said: “having a positive impact on every child I work with. I believe each pupil deserves the very best education and opportunity, no matter their starting point. Getting to make that happen is at the centre of all of my time in education.”

“I want every child to walk through the school gate excited to learn, develop social skills, and develop emotionally.”

Outside of her busy work schedule, most of Mrs Edwards’ time is spent with her son and daughter, aged four and eight, the younger of whom is already an aspiring ice hockey player!

Finally, we asked Amy if she could say one thing to her younger self, what would it be? “You get one chance at education, whatever year you are in, it’s the only time you’ll be there, so give it your best shot!”

With a passion for early years education, and a desire to make Southbroom an amazing learning environment for everyone, we can’t wait to get started with Mrs Edwards in the new school year!
