Language can be used in many ways, and as we develop, it’s important, enriching, and enlightening to learn different kinds of communication and wordplay.
Poetry teaches us the full extent of the expressive possibilities and it is a part of our pupil’s education that can bring them true joy and give them a fantastic way of using their creativity.
Today, we are marking National Poetry Day, joining schools and other organisations around the country in a celebration of verse.
Every National Poetry Day comes with a new theme. This year, inspired by ‘The Story of Squiddly Diddly’ by Theodora Shillito, the theme is Choice. The organisation has put together a fantastic list of poems based on the theme which you can read here: https://nationalpoetryday.co.uk/poems/! We highly recommend taking a look.
You can also see poems and other creations from previous years’ themes on the Poetry Society Website, or check out the recommended list of Poetry Books on the National Poetry Day Website
