We try to ensure that parents feel welcome at all times. We want you to find our school an open and inviting place, where parents and teachers work together for the good of the children. We pride ourselves that Southbroom Infants’ welcomes and encourages positive parental involvement.
We are very proud of our Family Learning Programme which offers parents and children many opportunities to learn together.
Each year pupils and parents from our school and Southbroom St James Academy take part in Devizes carnival- they have a great time both making the costumes and parading in them. We also run Lantern Making Workshops each year with Southbroom St James Academy and take part in the Town's Christmas Lantern Parade.
Parents are welcomed into school to help in a variety of ways, e.g. to give general classroom help or to do something specific such as cooking or sewing. - (Without parental support such valuable activities would not be able to take place as frequently as now). All adult helpers are DBS cleared in line with our Child Protection Policy.
As well as benefiting teachers and children directly, this also gives you, as parents, an insight into your child’s education. Most importantly, it fosters understanding between home and school.
All classes at Southbroom Infants’ School have a class blog. The blog has been a valuable tool, allowing parents to see and discuss what has been happening in their child’s class. However, this year we're going to use a new system to share what we're learning in class called Seesaw. Each child will have his or her own learning journal, and parents will be notified when their child adds new items. Like the blog, it is completely private - only you can see your child's journal outside of class. The journals will become a link between the children’s learning in school and that which has been done at home. We will be teaching the children to use the app both in school and at home. To add learning from home parents will need to download the ‘Seesaw class’ app and sign in using a QR code – these will be given to parents by the class teacher.
