The school day starts at 9.00am and finishes at 3.00pm. Registration is from 8.50am to 9.00am. If your child will be away please telephone the school office on 01380 723184 or send a message in with another parent.
If your child will be late please contact the office and let them know, please remember to book a school lunch by 10.00am. If your child arrives later than 9.00am please take them to the school office to sign them in as they would have missed morning registration.
If you need to collect your child from school during the day, you will need to sign them out at the school office and then sign them back in again, if they return.
There is a 15 minute morning play from 10.45am to 11.00am. All children are offered a free piece of fruit or vegetable each morning before or after morning play and children under 5 are given free milk. Parents of children over 5 can chose to pay for milk for their child. Milk is provided via Cool Milk.
Lunch is served between 12.00 and 1.00pm. All children at our school are entitled to a free school dinner under the Universal Free School Meals initiative introduced by the government. Most children therefore have a cooked meal everyday, see our School Dinner page for details. We have plenty of sports and play equipment to make playtimes fun and our staff actively organise and encourage play activities. Children can also enjoy the use of our climbing wall and adventure equipment. We encourage all children to have wellies in school at all times which means they can make use of our field, forest school and wildlife areas.
Younger children have an afternoon playtime each day and they are often joined by the older children for a 5 minute break.
Drop-off & Collection
At the beginning of the school day parents are encouraged to drop their children off in the classrooms. This gives parent the opportunity to speak briefly with the class teacher and helps to build up a close relationship between home and school – we want to have good links with all parents. During the year we will ask the parents of Year 2 pupils to start dropping their child off at the door to the cloakroom in preparation for them moving on to Year 3.
The school operates a "No Buggy Policy" within the school building. Prams and buggies should be left outside in the mornings, under the canopies if you wish, then take your child to the classroom door where a member of the class team will greet them. This should allow you to keep an eye on your younger infant. Our corridors become very congested and the buggies pose a potential trip hazard and may hamper evacuation in the event of a fire.
At the end of the school day we ask parents to wait outside the classrooms and the teachers will let the children out one by one as they see the parent waiting. No child is allowed to leave unless met by the parents, or parent's representative. If normal arrangements have to be altered (eg you are delayed or another person is collecting your child), please let us know. This avoids any confusion or upset.
Getting to school
To get to and from school, walking is definitely the best option! There are lots of benefits: it’s healthier than travelling by car, it improves the safety of pedestrians and road-users and it relieves the pressure on the roads around the site. Alternatively, we love to see children coming to school on their bikes and scooters and have bike-racks for their storage. If you do need to travel by car, please park wisely and drive around the school site with care as the site is very busy as it is shared with Devizes School and Devizes Leisure Centre.
